What's New About This Model? 

Although this is only a concept car, the Hazumi hatchback is a preview of the next-generation Mazda 2 subcompact.

When Does It Go on Sale? 

The Hazumi won't ever make it to dealers, but the next-generation Mazda 2 should be available in mid-to-late 2015.

How Much Does It Cost? 

One-off concepts like the Hazumi are ridiculously expensive to build. Thankfully, the Mazda 2 will likely start at around $16K when it goes on sale next year.

How Many Body Styles and Trim Levels Are There? 

Like the current Mazda 2, the redesigned model will come as a four-door hatchback only. Expect to see the same Sport and Touring trim levels as well.

What Kind of Engines and Transmissions Does It Have? 

The Hazumi concept packs a 1.5-liter diesel engine under its hood. When the U.S. model arrives in production form, it will most likely use a gasoline version of the same engine. Given that the current 1.5-liter in the Mazda 2 only makes 98 horsepower, we expect to see it break the century mark the next time around.

What Unique Features Does It Offer? 

The Mazda Connect suite of technology that was first introduced in the larger Mazda 3 will likely make its way down to the production Mazda 2 as well. It allows drivers to interact with a smartphone with less distraction. A head-up display is used in the Mazda 3 system, but the Mazda 2 might go without it to keep its cost down.

What Models Will It Compete Against? A surprisingly fun-to-drive hatchback, the Chevy Sonic competes favorably against both its foreign and domestic competition.

: Always a good driver, the Ford Fiesta also offers plenty of connectivity through its Sync system.

 Newly redesigned for 2015, the latest Honda Fit offers excellent utility and efficiency in a very practical package.

Should You Wait for It?

If you want a truly stylish subcompact hatchback, the next Mazda 2 is definitely worth waiting for. If all you want is a fun-to-drive small car, the current Mazda 2 will do just fine.
